A Little Matthew Update

A couple weeks ago I took the kids to Super Franks (an indoor playground) because it was rainy. While I was there, it was the first time I felt like people, moms, were "staring" at Matthew. Specifically this one mom kept looking at him and then giving me this "look." I ignored her.

In other news, Matthew is doing so well! He has a weekly appointment with Jennifer, an Infant Development Specialist, and then currently a bi-weekly (or so) physical therapy appointment, though I'm currently working on getting that moved closer so we can go weekly. Jennifer said he was doing so well that if he didn't automatically qualify for her services, he might not get them- that's fantastic! She is going to go ahead and recommend that he be evaluated for Occupational Therapy, but she also didn't think he really needed it right now, but she didn't want him to get behind.

At this point Matthew is sitting, quite well, though sometimes he gets off balance and falls over. He has also developed a way to go from sitting to his belly- it's quite cute. He isn't crawling or creeping yet, but is pretty adept at going backwards and rolling to get where he wants to go and doesn't want to go (under the entertainment center or couch). With some assistance he can get on his knees, and from there he is working on sitting up- sometimes he needs a little help with moving his hands back. All in all, he is doing good!

It can be a little overwhelming sometimes reading other people's experiences with their children who have Down Syndrome. My biggest fear is that I'm not doing something I should and as a result he will be behind even more. At this point though, I just have to roll with the punches and trust the professionals.
